2013 could be a big year for Turkey with the IOC deciding where to host the 2020 Olympics. Istanbul is now one of three front runners for this major event and in my opinion the favourite.

The other candidiate cities are Madrid, Spain and Tokyo, Japan, the later has already hosted the Olympics in 1964 and has also hosted the winter Olympics twice, in 1972 and 1978. Spain also held the summer Olympics in 1992 in Barcelona. Also could the Spanish people stomach the billions of euros they would need to fund the Olympics I think not So its about time Turkey was selected for a major event like the Olympics.

The only negative issue I can see with Istanbul is the traffic chaos, we don’t want another Atlanta do we! Traffic aside, Istanbul is a great place to visit and has so many interesting sights and monuments to vist inbetween events. One things for sure you will not be short of things to do whilst in Istanbul and if you get tired of the hot city you can always go and relax in one of the numerous resorts along the Aegean & Mediterranean coast of Turkey. From Istanbul you can fly, using one of many, low cost carriers down to Dalaman or Bodrum where there are plenty of beautiful beach resorts for a perfect post Olympics holiday to Marmaris, Oludeniz, Gumbet and Altinkum.

Im sure you’ll agree that Istanbul will be a perfect host for the 2020 Olympics. So come IOC don’t do a FIFA make the right choice and vote for Istanbul 2020!
