Altinkum is a popular resort situated on the sunny Aegean coast. Also known as Didim its famous for its gently sloping sandy beaches fringing crystal clear waters. Altinkum in Turkish means 'Golden Sands', it has two stretches of long crescent beaches which lie at each end of the resort, starting at the harbour and finishing at a rocky headland. The sun-warmed waters along this beach are mainly shallow for a couple of hundred metres and are ideal for bathing with young children as well as non swimmers. The availability of sunbeds makes it an ideal place to relax in comfort, or if you are feeling energetic canoes and pedaloes are available for hire. Altinkum offers a good selection of restaurants and bars to suit every taste and budget with most entertainment centred around the two main squares and the bar street. During the high season the centre of town can become quite livley therfore it is recommened for those of you who prefer your peace and quiet should consider staying further away from the center.

Altinkum isn't just about lazing about on the beach in the sunshine, there is plenty to do during both the day and evening. Even if your not a keen historian the ancient world is not far away, Altinkum is close to many fascinating ancient sites where you can almost feel the past. Nearby is the small resort of Didim with the Temple of Apollo where the famous snake-adorned head of Medusa stands, and the sheer size of the columns is truly amazing. For a longer day-out visit the inspiring ruins of Ephesus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Or for something completely different you could take a boat trip to the Greek island of Samos, or perhaps enjoy a walk around the nearby beautiful Bafa Lake with its magnificent mountain backdrop.
