The Mediterranean country of Malta finds itself around 50 miles south of Sicily and 180 north of Africa so it will come as little surprise to find out that the country enjoys year round weather that gets tourists flocking in their thousands.
Sun seekers can either enjoy lounging around poolside or one of the many beautiful sandy beaches that surround the island, but there is more to Malta than just baking in the sun.

There are a number of great things to see and do in Malta and because the island is so small, around 17 by 9 miles and around 122 square miles, it is possible to get around easily and see it all. Malta is serviced by great bus system that lets you travel the island at a low cost.

We are going to look at 5 of the best things you should see and do if you visit Malta and we are going to start with the capital city.

Valetta is the capital of Malta and is home to the vast majority of the country’s population giving it the feel and buzz of any major capital city. Steeped in history there are a number of great sites and museums worth checking out especially if you have an interest in military history. If you want to hit the shops you will find everything you could want. From designer shops and boutiques to local delicacies and specialities Valetta has it all and if you visit on a Sunday you can visit the famous open air market. There are also a number of great bars, restaurants and clubs so it is ideal for those looking for a bit of exciting nightlife.

If you fancy something a bit different from the hustle and bustle of the city you can take a trip to visit the beautiful Blue Lagoon at Comino. With its white sands and incredible water the area is popular with tourists who are looking for that little bit of exotic luxury.

Beaches are a big thing in Malta as you might expect of a Mediterranean island with over 196km coastline on the main island and 50km of coastline on the island of Gozo. You really don’t have to look far to find a nice beach but Golden Sands beach is worth going to. Located in a great little bay it has a beach bar and café on it and the water is warm year round.

You might want to take advantage of being right in the middle of the Mediterranean by making the most of one of the great boat tours available in Malta. Some tours can be seasonal but you will be able to see the beautiful coastline and maybe even take a dip in the water too.

Finally for a bit of history and culture why not visit the Mnajdra Temples that date back to the 4th millennium BC. This is a great place to get some interesting photos in the South of Malta.
